Experience the stunning beauty of Vintgar Gorge, also known as Bled Gorge (Blejski vintgar)! This remarkable 1.6-kilometer (0.99 mi) gem is nestled in the breathtaking northwestern part of Slovenia, connecting the charming municipalities of Gorje and Bled.

Carved by the mighty Radovna River, the gorge flows gracefully through the enchanting Radovna Valley, creating a mesmerizing landscape. As you stroll along the paths, you’ll be captivated by the incredible erosive features, including serene pools and thrilling rapids, all sculpted by nature’s artistry.

At the end of your journey, you’ll be greeted by the awe-inspiring Šum Falls, soaring 13 meters (43 ft) high. Known as the “Noisy Falls,” this is Slovenia’s largest river waterfall and a spectacular sight that you absolutely must see!

Capturing the beauty of the Gorenjska region at night inspired me to spend a night by the enchanting River Radovna, where the tranquillity and stunning scenery are simply breathtaking.

Vintgar Gorge is often crowded with visitors, especially during the summer months, which can make capturing the perfect shot challenging. However, night photography offers a unique chance to enjoy the gorge’s beauty in peace, benefiting both myself and my dependable tripod.

For this special occasion, I’ve decided to bring my trusted Velbon tripod, ensuring stability and capturing the best possible shots.

I thoroughly enjoyed photographing Lake Bled with my colleague, so I invited him again.

Exploring Bled Gorge at night, fully equipped, might seem adventurous but entails considerable risks.

The stone surface is very slippery, and visibility is almost zero! Trust me, this is definitely not the best place for moonwalking.

I stayed by the river all night, mesmerised by its tranquil beauty, and it was worth every second until dawn.

Equipped with a headlamp, I carefully adjusted the camera’s exposure, then switched off the light and waited for my image to emerge from the shadows. An 80-second exposure proved just the right duration; it was an exhilarating experience!

The long wait finally paid off. After catching a few winners, I started to pack my gear, eager to head home to my warm bed. Just as I was about to leave, a piercing scream tore through the air, freezing me in place.

When my friend’s camera fell into the river, he jumped in to rescue it! Fortunately, everything turned out well in the end. What an adventure!

What a night! We lost some valuable equipment, but I know I was lucky given the circumstances. What a night! We have lost some valuable equipment, but I know I was lucky considering the circumstances.

Be like water my friend.

*Empty your mind, be formless, shapeless, like water.

Water has no shape, yet it can take any shape it is placed in.

The softest element on earth, yet it penetrates the hardest rock.

Be like water making its way through cracks.*
